2017 Toyota Prius

Those who drive a Toyota Prius do so because they wanted something different. But the choice of alternative options doesn’t stop there. There are four different Prius models for consumers to choose from and six different trim levels within those models. And each brings something unique to the road.

So what’s the difference between all these Prius options? Below is an overview of each model along with its distinguishing features.

2017 Toyota Prius Available as 4 Different Models

Prius

The standard Prius is the midsize model of the brand. This Prius features a 1.8-liter 4-cylinder engine that produces 95 horsepower and delivers 51 MPG in the city and 48 MPG on the highway. The standard Prius sets the measuring stick for the rest of the models in the family.

Prius c

The Prius c is the smallest model in the family and offers a more traditional hatchback design while looking the least like a hybrid car. In addition to having less cargo area, the Prius c also boasts the smallest powertrain with a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder hybrid engine that equates to 73 horsepower.

Being the smallest of the Prius models, it comes as no surprise that the Prius c also returns an impressive fuel economy at 53 MPG in the city and 46 MPG on the highway.

Being the smallest member of the Prius family has one more perk as well: the price. The Prius c brings an MSRP of just under $21,000, well below that of the standard Prius ($24,685) and the Prius v ($26,675).

Prius v

The Prius v is the largest of the Prius models and features more of a wagon design with an enlarged cargo area. The Prius v sports the same engine as the standard Prius but because it carries a slightly larger build, it returns a slightly lower fuel efficiency at 44 MPG city and 40 MPG highway.

Prius Prime

The Prius Prime is not just the most efficient car in the Prius family, it’s among the most efficient car in its class with capabilities of generating 54 MPG on city streets and 53 MPG on the highway. And a battery that’s twice the size of the standard Prius allows for 25 miles of electric-only driving on the same 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine.
